• First official TV announcement of the accident, made by the Soviet national television in evening news. It was made on  April 28 and lasted near 14 seconds (comments in Russian and French subtitled).

• After the accident, it was necessary to remove from the roof of the reactor No. 3 the debris of radioactive graphite projected in the explosion. Mechanical robots were tested at this task, but they were helpless, locked in the debris or inactivated by the intense radioactivity. So men were employed in this work. Radiation level on the roof was 10,000-12,000 Roentgens per hour. They could not stay two minutes on the roof and were called "biological robots" - "biorobots" (comments in English).

• To extinguish the fire of graphite in what was left of the reactor core, the Soviets sent helicopters to bombard the fire with radiation-absorbing materials (sand, boron, dolomite). It was a difficult task to achieve this small target from a helicopter. Directly above the reactor, a lot of these pilots breathed the radioactive particles and died as a result of their exposure to radiation (comments in English).

• This video shows what has been called the "Elephant Foot" deep in the basement of the reactor No. 4 at Chernobyl. This concretion was formed with sand mixed with radioactive material. Heat from the fission after the accident vitrified the "Elephant Foot". Radioactivity is obviously enormous in this basement (comments in English).

• 6 minutes long version of a film called "Chronicle of Severe Days". Last film of cameraman and film director Vladimir Shevchenko, who succeeded to film helicopter crush at the reactor site (Elena's comments in English and subtitles in French) .

• This video shows the depot of vehicles used after the accident at the Chernobyl power plant. These vehicles are highly contaminated. Video and comments from Elena, motorcycle trip, spring 2002 (Elena's comments in English and subtitles in French).

• This video shows us, from a helicopter, the reactor No. 4 at Chernobyl a few days after the accident. It shows very well the reactor core still glowing (comments in Italian).

• The video "The last day of Pripyat" shows us life in the city, this week end, after the accident happened on the night of Friday to Saturday. These are beautiful days of spring, everything seems normal, no one has been informed yet of the risks of accident and the flow of radiation spraying the city (French subtitles).
